ISSUE
I get a message that an Image Doctor 2 filter ran out of memory either while rendering the preview or applying the effect to an image.
SOLUTION
Image Doctor 2 filters were tested on images up to 100 MB in size on a machine with 1GB of memory. This corresponds to an RGB image on a single, background layer with dimensions up to 6000 x 6000 pixels. You can check the size of the image and the dimensions in Photoshop under Image->Image Size. Note, if you have 2GB of RAM you will not necessarily be able to run the filters on a 200 MB image.
If your image is much larger than 100 MB there is a good chance the filters will run out of memory. Here are some things you can try:
- Make sure you run Image Doctor 2 on the original photograph and not an upsampled (resized) image. A 30 megapixel digital photograph should be less than 100 MB.
- If you are using Adobe Photoshop or Elements, adjust the amount of memory being allocated to plug-ins. See "TroubleShooting Out of Memory Errors", referenced at the bottom of this article.
- If there are multiple layers in the image, copy the layer to a new document and close the other documents. Run the filter on a single layer document and then copy over the results the original document.
- Cut out a smaller section of the image that you wish to restore and run the filter on that part. Then merge the results with the entire layer.
