When you open an image in Photoshop Elements 5.0, there is a very good chance that it will be a background layer. If you are using Exposure 1, Exposure 2 or Snap Art and you have the "Create Output In New Layer Above Current" check box in the filter's user interface enabled, you will get an error message that reads, "Unable to create a new layer. If you are working with a 32-bit image in Photoshop CS2, there is no support for 32-bit layers. The 'Create Output in New Layer' check box should be turned off in this situation" after clicking on the "OK" button in the user interface. After you click on the "OK" button in the error message window, the background layer will get renamed to the Alien Skin filter that you are using and then apply said filter.
To avoid this problem, double click on the layer name and give it a descriptive name. You will then be allowed to enable the "Create Output In New Layer Above Current" check box in the filter's user interface without worry.
