ISSUE

The Adobe Illustrator product is different from the Adobe Photoshop products. It allows the user to alter both raster/bitmap images as well vector based images. Plug-Ins once installed will appear in both a Filter and an Effects menu within Illustrator. Their use depends upon the type of image file and the type of selection. Simply put, you can apply a filter to a selection much like you can with the Photoshop products using the Filter Menu with Illustrator. The Effects Menu allows you to apply a “Live Effect” much like you can with the Fireworks products.

Alien Skin Software does not officially support the use of Adobe Illustrator as a host application for our Plug-In products.

However, some of our products will work with Illustrator given the following limitations:

• Some of our products function correctly for raster based images when ran from the Filter Menu in Illustrator. But, most of our products do not function well when run on a vector based image from the Effects menu in Illustrator.
• Create Output in New Layer is disabled in products such as Eye Candy 5 and Snap Art.
• Blow Up will not work with Illustrator since there is no support for Automation plug-ins.
• Use of Splat,  Xenofex 2, and Image Doctor 1 in Illustrator on a Macintosh computer can cause Illustrator to crash.

SOLUTION

Our product installers do not detect Adobe Illustrator as a host application.  To use our products in Illustrator, create a custom Plug-in folder and enable access to the folder within Adobe Illustrator. Install our products into the custom Plug-In folder.
