AutoLayer2.8li file updates to resolve Windows Photoshop CS4 issues

ISSUE

The current version of the AutoLayer2.8li File that is used with the Exposure 2 and Bokeh products causes some cosmetic issues in the Windows version of Photoshop CS4. With the current version of the AutoLayer2.8li file installed the user will notice that the Arrange Documents Menu is grayed out and the Preferences Transparency Settings are not being displayed correctly. We have updated the AutoLayer2.8li file to resolve these issues.  Please note that there is no need for Macintosh customers to update their AutoLayer2 file since these issues do not exist in the Macintosh version of Photoshop CS4.

SOLUTION

Please use the following steps to install these new versions of the AutoLayer2.8li file:

  • Download the new AutoLayer2 files onto your desktop from the following link: https://backup.filesanywhere.com/fs/v.aspx?v=8e6c6787585f71a5b3ae
  • Open the downloaded zip file.
  • Inside you will find both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions of the new AutoLayer2.8li files.
  • If you are using the 32 bit Windows version of Photoshop CS4, locate the Alien Skin folder that was installed onto your computer.
  • Typically it would be located here on a 32 bit version of Windows XP or Vista: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins
  • Typically it would be located here on a 64 bit version of Windows XP or Vista: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4\Plug-ins
  • Go into the Alien Skin folder and locate the current version of the AutoLayer2.8li file.
  • Drag it onto your desktop.
  • Copy the new version of the AutoLayer2.8li file found within the zip file you downloaded and paste it into the Alien Skin folder.
  • Please note that if you installed Bokeh and/or Exposure 2 into a custom Plugins folder you will have to remove the old version of the AutoLayer2.8li file from the Alien Skin folder in that location and copy in the new version.
  • If you are using the 64 bit Windows version of Photoshop CS4, locate the Alien Skin folder that was installed onto your computer.
  • Typically it would be located here on a 64 bit version of Windows XP or Vista: C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS4 (64 Bit)\Plug-ins
  • Go into the Alien Skin folder and locate the current version of the AutoLayer2 x64.8li file.
  • Drag it onto your desktop.
  • Copy the new version of the AutoLayer2 x64.8li file found within the zip file you downloaded and paste it into the Alien Skin folder.
  • Once you have replaced the AutoLayer2 files, restart Photoshop CS4.
  • Run the Bokeh and/or Exposure 2 products and create new layers.
  • Verify that both products are working correctly with the new AutoLayer2.8li files.
  • Lastly, delete the old version(s) of the AutoLayer.8li file(s) that you moved onto your desktop.

We have found that the AutoLayer.8li file utilized by the Snap Art and Eye Candy 5 products also causes the same cosmetic issues in the Windows version of Photoshop CS4.  If these cosmetic issues are bothersome to you then please drag the AutoLayer.8li file out of the Alien Skin folder onto your desktop and restart Photoshop CS4. This will resolve the cosmetic issues, but please note that the create output in new layer option in the EC5 and Snap Art products will be disabled.  To enable this function again, please drag the AutoLayer.8li file from your desktop back into the Alien Skin folder and restart Photoshop CS4.

APPLIES TO

  • Bokeh
  • Exposure 2
