ISSUE
I've installed Alien Skin filters on a Macintosh using an administrator account, but users with limited accounts don't see the filters listed in the filter menu.
SOLUTION
The plug-in installer installs files with the wrong permissions. This can be corrected by explicitly setting the permissions using the Finder. Here's how:
- Locate the folder the plug-in was installed in. For Photoshop CS3, this is /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Plug-Ins/Alien Skin/<Product Name>.
- Select that folder and bring up the Get Info window by hitting Command+I.
- Reveal the Ownership & Permissions section by clicking its disclosure triangle, if necessary.
- Reveal the Details section under Ownership & Permissions by clicking its disclosure triangle, if necessary.
- Leave the owner setting as it currently is.
- Set owner access to Read & Write
- Set the group to admin
- Set admin access to Read & Write
- Set other access to Read
- Press the Apply To Enclosed Items button
