Filters Don't Appear in Filter Menu For Limited User After Installing as Admin

ISSUE

I've installed Alien Skin filters on a Macintosh using an administrator account, but users with limited accounts don't see the filters listed in the filter menu.

SOLUTION

The plug-in installer installs files with the wrong permissions.  This can be corrected by explicitly setting the permissions using the Finder.  Here's how:

  1. Locate the folder the plug-in was installed in.  For Photoshop CS3, this is /Applications/Adobe Photoshop CS3/Plug-Ins/Alien Skin/<Product Name>.
  2. Select that folder and bring up the Get Info window by hitting Command+I.
  3. Reveal the Ownership & Permissions section by clicking its disclosure triangle, if necessary.
  4. Reveal the Details section under Ownership & Permissions by clicking its disclosure triangle, if necessary.
  5. Leave the owner setting as it currently is.
  6. Set owner access to Read & Write
  7. Set the group to admin
  8. Set admin access to Read & Write
  9. Set other access to Read
  10. Press the Apply To Enclosed Items button
